In CA for the next week with some of the most incredible people in my life. Super excited to be in the desert for my Birthday. I couldn't image be in a better place. Inspiration show was really incredible, I didn't take that many photos due to wanted to relax and not thinking about taking photos for once. I have tons of new material to update when I get back and have some shooting time. Lots of new material including: Mister Freedom, Blue Blanket, Rising Sun, and LVC.

Levis Vintage Clothing work shirt from last season. This was the perfect shirt for our 14 hour hike to Beveridge. It did a great job keeping the black flies off me and the sun. The shirt got a lot of wear on the hike and the bottom got some really nice indigo bleed from the AB Efelts.

Me and my friend Rainer went out to Orient, Ohio to visit The Green's Heritage Museum. The museum was featured on a episode of American Pickers. I went to take some texture shots of the village the owner set up through years of collecting. Rainer who is an amazing photographer took some shots of me in various wardrobe: Mister Freedom, Rising Sun, LVC (Levi Vintage Clothing), and Pendleton. So I am not that big of a candle guy but I picked up one of these candles and I was amazed. The company is Modern Alchemy. The packaging and number of incredible scents that don't smell all girly and like perfume is great. The one I received was called Salem (new england maple, Hickory and walnut are set ablaze in a ravenous bonfire consuming the imagination) The other ones I want to try are Tincture of Winchester (fire arsenal of wood stock , 19th century lacquer and smoky gunpowder), opium den, boston tea party, and secret society. Elegant shirting is a large part of our MFSC Apaches collection, and without further ado, we introduce the chemise calico in two versions: An indigo blue Calico and a white Calico. Inspired by late 1800’s European cotton printed shirting fabrics and several vintage swatches from MF® Archives, we went back to early techniques of discharge printing to produce these textiles in Japan.

SPECS:
PATTERN: All original MFSC pattern, inspired by early European shirting.
FABRIC: All cotton fancy Broadcloth, 3.5 oz. Exclusively woven and printed in Japan for MFSC. Limited run.
A) Indigo dyed base, discharge calico print.
B) White base, indigo calico print.
BUTTONS:Authentic French 1900’s-1930’s New Old Stock glass buttons, also referred to as boutons Briare, because of their regional origin (Finding them in France was a real wild goose chase…)
DETAILS:
* Original MFSC pocketing
* Full button front with secure “belly flap”.
* Lower button placket tab to secure shirt to trousers waist button. (there is a photo of Amedeo Modigliani out there, sporting one of those traditional shirting tabs…)
* Back yoke passe-cravate, to keep scarf or tie in place.
* Back panel and cuff early shirting traditional shearing.
* French style gussets.
* Collar and button placket facing with indigo dyed solid popeline.
* Original woven MFSC rayon labeling and sizing tab.
CONSTRUCTION: Tailor type single needle french seams, no overlock nor chainstitch. 100% Cotton thread, extra high stitch count.
PACKAGING: The shirts come in an individual old school chipboard box, exclusive to MF.
The original oil painting was masterfully executed by Mr. PATRICK SEGUI of RIVETED blog fame, and a paper print of his artwork will be featured on the Apache Collection box tops.
SIZING: All the Apache shirting is sized/labelled in french.

QUODDY GRIZZLY BOOTS

I decided to pick up a pair of the Quoddy Grizzly Boots a couple months ago. I traced my foot sent it in and 6 weeks later they arrived. These boots couldn't get any more perfect and comfy. Back from Chicago from the vintage postcard paper show and brought home some amazing stuff. Me and Benny stopped at an interesting area in Granville to take some photos and started to realize we were standing in the area where all of Graville's roadkill is dumped. It smelled wonderful, lots of hair and bones everywhere.

In LA for a few days and stopped by Inspiration Saturday. Lots of great people were there and it was really cool to finally see and meet some of the people I only know from online. We walked around for awhile and then decided to disappear and explore some of the Secret spots on the Queen Mary, most were too dark to photograph. Not many photos of the show itself. Choctaw Ridge Undergarments

Lookbook for Choctaw Ridge Undergarments that I shot. Small interview about the line:

Inspiration was 1920-40's men's undergarments. I became really interested in old box packaging of underwear from that time period, it came in a box and had maybe 4 pieces. Many of the details were inspired from old long johns or underwear that i updated to something a little more modern with top of the line fabric. I used fish eye coroza buttons in their natural color which is very similar to natural Ivory in color.The tank top and boxer briefs are heavy 9 0z 1x1 supima/model ring spun cotton with Lycra to maintain shape after continuous wear. The crew neck and v neck t's are made from 60 single supima/model ring spun cotton, buttery soft! The woven fabric for the boxers and lounge pants is very beautiful Japanese fabric. The stripe is reminiscent of fabric from that time period. Although extremely expensive i felt it was perfect to capture this period. The Thermal fabric is 100% cotton ring spun made in US. I think that era was very sophisticated and gentleman dressed impeccably from head to too including their undergarments. When you look at the market today there is a huge deficiency in men's undergarments. It's either cheap uniqlo or h&m or cheesy designer underwear with their logo all over the waistband. I think now that men are really starting to appreciate the finer qualities of fabric and production in their wardrobe the one missing element is finely made undergarments, with the style and fit demanded by today's modern gentleman.

PATTERN: An original MFSC pattern, inspired by early 1910’s -1920’s USN and US Coast Guard Melton wool Peacoats
FABRIC: Body: Coarse weave 16 oz indigo “black back denim” twill (indigo warp x black weft), aka “Midnight Twill”. 100% cotton. White ID selvedge. Woven in Japan, exclusive MFSC. Indigo bleeding to be expected and anticipated. The white core of the indigo yarn will surface with proper wear and will give amazing patina to the coat over time. All kinds of blues!
LINING: Inner full lining, 10 oz. plain weave indigo/natural white woven cloth, all cotton, woven in Japan
CLOSURE: 10 button front, USN style early “13 Star” buttons. Full front closure with collar up and throat latch for windy deck conditions.
POCKETS: Two outside slash “hand warmer” pockets and two flap pockets (all lined with 100% cotton wide wale corduroy). Inside chest pocket and “cigarette” pocket. The flaps are made from lighter 10 oz. “black back denim” with royal blue selvedge ID.
STITCHING: All cotton thread stitching, ‘oxydized faded’ black colour.
DETAILS: Owner’s own identification wide white sheeting neck label, ready for perso ID stenciling (a detail from early French military gear), back selvedge vent, concealed detachable throat latch under collar, ZigZag stand collar reinforcement stitching…

CLEANING: Can be hand rinsed with cold water and minimal soap, dry-cleanable. Extended wear and abuse recommended before washing is considered, to maximize patina over time.
SHRINKAGE: With full washing/drying (again, not recommended, fabric will ‘marble’ with strong machine wash-cycle), a FULL size shrinkage is expected.

Mister Freedom Type 189-mn "Midnight" CPO shirt picked up last month. The right wrist area is staring to show good wear due to me falling down a small cliff. Thanks to Benny Mistak for taking the first two photos.

SPECS:

PATTERN: An all original MFSC pattern, inspired by 1920’s-30’s military/uniform shirting.
FABRIC: 10 oz. Indigo warp/black weft twill (with royal blue selvedge ID), aka “MFSC midnight denim”, aka black back denim, aka ‘the bleeder’. Unsanforized
DETAILS: Metal military snaps, long chin strap, elbow reinforcement, double shoulder patch, yoke back, selvedge chambray side gussets, buttoned belly flap, triple snap wrists, indigo popeline/blue chambray facing, underarm chambray gussets, inside chest passport pocket…

WASHING: Please do not BOIL this one! We recommend wearing the shirt raw. You can spray it with water to get some shrinkage (full shrinkage is about a full size down), and wear it damp to mold to your body (no white undershirt!). Can be dry cleaned in the future.

If you need to wash this shirt, cold water and very minimal soap, inside out. NO dryer. The reason for all this is to maximize the beauty of the fading that is guarenteed to happen with repeat wear.

When I was in California, I stopped by Rising Sun and Co. in Pasadena. The company was created by Mike Hodis and one of the quotes from their website is: "We often think of ourselves as actually working in the early 1900's with our 21st century minds intact." While I was at the shop I picked up a pair of the A.B. Elfelt & Company reproduction jeans based on a pair of originals from the 1870's. Click here to visit there website. Back from my trip to Cali and had an amazing time. Me and Eric took a great road trip to Death Valley and a couple other places. Last day I was there I got to meet some incredible people in the denim/vintage clothing world including Brit, Mike, Larry, Mike, Bill and Julian. Also stopped by to say hi to Christophe and Katherine as usual. Here a couple few snaps tons more to come just having a hard time editing. Back home from Vegas, I didn't take many personal photos there. I am feeling pretty burnt right now. But will be back in full force soon. I finished waxing the black MM today as well.

Miami was a great change from South Padre, night and day. Food was 100% better and the water was clean/clear and warm. Only bad thing about Miami is the horrible fashion. All the crappy Affliction/jewelry on men's clothing, True Religion jeans with bedazzle on the back pockets. Only took a couple cool photos now to Vegas!

So finally out of South Padre and in Miami now for week two of the job. Night and Day. I will never ever go to south padre again in my life. I saw some crazy stuff that I will never forget. Here are some of the things that aren't work related that I saw minus the XXX-rated stuff.

I watched Alice in Wonderland a couple nights ago. The film was pretty good visually. I met Crispin awhile ago so I thought what better time then now to post the photo I took of him. He plays Stayne- the knave of hearts in the film. Click here to check out his website. He has also directed and made some amazing films. Also included a couple more snaps from vacation. I saw the same metal treasure hunter this year and got the wide shot I needed to add to last years shot. I will be busy the rest of March with lots of work, South padre, Miami, Vegas, NYC.

Random Stuff update

Back to Ohio! Marco Island was fun, always great to spend time with the Family. Thanks again Mom and Dad for having us again. Couple weeks to take it easy then back to chaos. I received the Black Mulholland in the mail and my dad took a couple snaps. I started to wax the jacket and it is looking great so far. Very subtle look once the wax is heated into it. The other photos are some detail shots of the farm. Also included a photo of Brooke LaValley who helped me shoot the Leftfield Lookbook! Thanks again Brooke!!!

BDAY/FAMILY VACATION

On vacation now in Flordia with the Family. I had a really relaxing Birthday and Happy B day as well to Ernest and Jay! Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes! Still waiting on my birthday gift to myself which will arrive on Thursday. Keeping it a tradition every year now. The look book made it to selectism, click here for the article. Left Field NYC Lookbook

Brooke LaValley, Chuck Hootman and I headed out last weekend to shoot the Fall 2010 Lookbook for Left Field Clothing ran by Christian McCann. Really cool workwear and sportswear still made in the USA. Sam Pollock hooked us up with a really cool location on the Ring's Farm. The Theme of the book is: After 11 years of American made clothing, Left Field recently took advantage of the snowy winter to shoot their look book with some American Labor-workers in the Mid-West.
